Histochemical Studies on the Pregnancy Gingivitis

Abstract
The gingiva contains PAS positive carbohydrate-protein complex of intercellular ground homy, substance which is the state of aggregation of the negative charged colloids.
The gingivae are, labile in response to the influence of hormones and the changes in the stbook internal melieu such as -the pubertal period, a certain stage of menstrual cycle, pregnancy and local irritations.
Histochemical studies were performed to observe the relationship between the effect of pregnancy and local response upon the gingival tissue.
In this studies, 12 specimens obtained from pregnant and 8 specimens obtained from non vol. pregnant inflammed gingivae were used.
Results
1. The surface keratinization was relative increase in pregnant inflammed gingiva comparable to the to that of non-pregnant inflammed gingiva.
2. The pregnant inflammed gingiva revealed thinning of papillary width and a relative 9th elongation of ridge length comparable to that of non-pregnant inflammed gingivae. Thane.
3. In the granular layer of the epithelium, the glycogen distribution was most remarkable among the other layers of the epithelium. And the stainability was more intense in pregnant Geora than in non-pregnant inflammed gingivae.
4, Both pregnant and non-pregnant inflammed gingivae revealed a discreated basement arch in membrane,¢¥the stainability to periodic-acid schiff¢¥s reagent was more intense in pregnant inflammed gingiva.
5. In pregnant inflammed gingiva, the carbohydrate-protein complexes was diminished similar to that of non-pregnant inflammed ¢¥gingiva, but the staining reaction was slight intense in human non-pregnant inflammed gingiva.
